Administration

Mrs. Barbara McRae

With over 30 years of experience working with young children in Guilford County, I am honored to serve as the principal of our wonderful school, Pleasant Garden Elementary School. After three rewarding years as assistant principal, I am excited to continue supporting our students, staff, and families in this new role.

I truly admire this community and feel connected to the families we serve. One of the greatest joys of my work is watching students grow—academically, socially, and emotionally—alongside the incredible staff who guide and nurture them every day.

Providing a safe, warm, and nurturing learning environment is my top priority. I am also passionate about building strong community partnerships that support student success. Together, we can ensure that every child feels valued, supported, and inspired.

Join me in making our school a place where Every Day Counts for every student who walks through our doors.

Let’s make this year an amazing one—together!

Warmly,

Barbara McRae

Mr. Matthew Killian

Mr. Killian started working with Guilford County Schools in 2015, and I most recently served at Bessemer Elementary School.  In addition to his time at Bessemer, he also has experience at the High School level as an English Teacher, and in Higher Education as an Academic Advisor. He began his career in education after earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo, followed by a Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s in School Administration from Western Carolina University.

Mr. Killian is originally from Buffalo, NY, (Go Bills!) but now calls Greensboro home. He lives here with his wife—who’s also an AP in GCS—his son, and  goldendoodle. When not at school, he loves to be outdoors, spend time with family, and travel.
